It's coming to that time of year that our year winds down and we can spend a little more time with our families and friends. If you're like me with kids, the upcoming weeks off from school can be a little frightful. Here are 10 things to do in and around Calgary that may make it a little more jolly.

Calgary Zoo Lights:

Airdrie Festival of Lights (Airdrie):

This FREE family-friendly event takes place at Nose Creek Park and features a stunning display of over a million twinkling lights, creating a magical winter wonderland. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll through the park, sip on hot cocoa, and even meet Santa Claus.

Winter Ice Skating at Bowness Park:

Bowness Park offers a picturesque ice skating experience on the lagoon. Rent skates, glide on the ice, and warm up by the fire pits. It's a classic winter activity loved by locals and visitors alike.

Chinook Blast:

Chinook Blast is Calgary’s winter festival celebration that brings together partners from the arts, nonprofit, neighbourhood, tourism, and sports communities to create an inclusive event that showcases the best of our city.

Block Heater:

Block Heater descends on the Inglewood and East Village neighbourhoods for a mashup of local, Canadian and international musicians, from February 15-17, 2024.

SnowDays Festival:

Every year Lake Louise turns into a glittering display of ice sculptures during Ice Magic and the streets of downtown Banff showcase giant snow sculptures.

Glow Fest YYC:

The Glow Downtown Winter Light Festival is an annual six-day event in February that lights up downtown Calgary and transforms it into a warm, dynamic world of light.

The Pop-Up Holiday Market (Cochrane):

This is the last weekend to support locals this holiday season by buying unique, handmade gifts from the small businesses in the Cochrane community!

Calgary Icebreaker Polar Dip:

For the brave-hearted, the Calgary Icebreaker Polar Dip is an exhilarating way to start the new year. Participants take a dip in the icy waters of Mahogany Lake to raise money for charity. This event runs in conjunction with Mahogany’s Winterfest.

The Nutcracker Ballet:

Enjoy the holiday classic, "The Nutcracker," performed by the Alberta Ballet at the Jubilee Auditorium. It's a timeless tradition that brings the magic of the season to life through dance and music.

Calgary may be known for its cold winters, but it's also a city that knows how to make the most of the season. So bundle up, embrace the snow, and create lasting memories in this vibrant Canadian city.
